Friends of MF509
MF509, a Wellington MK10 took off on Nov.20th 1944 for a training exercise. The plane experienced engine troubles and as they descended over the mountains of the Brecon Beacons their aircraft flew into the south west slope of Carreg Goch. Six RCAF crewmembers perished. A memorial was erected by the Welsh people and has since assumed a place of honour within the Brecon Beacons.

Can you please drop the hyphen. The aircraft carried the serial number MF509.
i was at the crash site with a group of lads in1960 even at 15yrs of age we felt a great sense of admiration for those truly brave men cruelly taken by the mountain there was a lot more wreckage back then ie tyre remains gun turret perspex etc going to visit soon with afriend god bless them and we will remember
after 50yrs finally returned to MF509 to pay my respects with a friend who himself had waited 40 yrs .reasons being given false information regarding total removal of the Wellington.thanks to the internet we found it was still there.we made our visit wed 24/11/10 we were in awe of those young fliers who selflessly gave their lives for this country
same day 24/11/10 approx 14.30hrs we saw 2 Harriers screaming over the top of Garreg Goch as we were by the side of Wellington MF509.They were heading South West we both felt what a tribute as they tipped their wings in passing.the last flight of the Wellington MF509 was saluted R.A.F style and ironically by planes shortly to be retired from service sadly JP.
I just took a trip up there. See my photo's of the trek here http://www.flickr.com/photos/ben_salter/sets/72157627131998799/
